Aqua Romana, Rumis

Aqua Romana is like Tsuro with planning 🙂 . I’m not sure if it’s very replayable, but I like it as a relatively straightforward and fun tile-laying game.

I’ve wanted to play Rumis for a while, and finally found a relatively good-looking copy at the local game sale to buy and do it. For some reason the cardboard “clam shell” packaging is apparently really easy to damage, judging by the multitude of poor-condition copies on sale at eBay and other places. It’s a quick-playing abstract game with 3d polyominos. I thought it was going to be dumber than it is, but it has interesting elements of blocking – even to the point of player elimination, planning, and area majority in a punchy 10-minute package. Pretty cool.
